Upcoming events SAVE THE DATES!
As part of Albany's 2026 Bicentenary celebrations this year's tournament promises to be a special occasion, welcoming players from across the region to celebrate both our sport and the city of Albany's historic milestone.
The 2026 Albany Tournament will build on the success of last year's tournament which set records with the largest field ever, the return of the Saturday evening meal and the introduction of the inaugural quiz night! Following the positive reception of the two-division format and expanded social program in 2025, we're excited to bring another fantastic weekend of competitive badminton and great company.
We're looking forward to welcoming you to Albany for a memorable weekend of badminton, friendship, and Bicentenary celebrations!

Entry Fee: $60 per player
Registration Closing: 19 July 2026
The tournament committee will organize teams and split the competition into two skill-based divisions. This ensures stronger players face tougher challenges, while less experienced players compete in a more manageable and encouraging environment.
When you sign up for the competition, we’ll create teams based on skill level to keep things fair and fun. Those that have been before will be very familiar with the format. You will be teamed up with players you might not have played with before, which is a great chance to mix it up and meet new people. If it’s your first time signing up and you have a partner in mind, just let us know, while we can't promise anything, but we’ll do our best to put you in a team together.
The Saturday evening dinner will include our now famous quiz night! It's the perfect way to unwind, connect with fellow players, and add some extra fun to a memorable weekend of badminton.
The event will be held at Motel Le Grande.

Cost $55 per person.
The field is split into two separate groups.
In each group - eight teams – playing off in a round robin format. There will be four rounds Saturday and three rounds Sunday.
There will be a champion team in each group.
Each match will start and finish with the bell.
7 minute play, 1 minute between games, 5 minutes between rounds.
Play for the entire 7 minutes – no matter the score, continue playing if a mach is mid-point when the bell goes.
Each match won earns a team two competition points. In the event of a draw, each team receives one competition point.
Teams NOT ready to play when the bell goes forfeit the match!
The opponent will win that match - and gets 15 match points awarded.
Teams will be ranked within their group based on their total competition points accumulated throughout the tournament.
At the conclusion of play, the team ranked highest in each group will be declared the Group Champion.
If two or more teams finish on the same number of competition points, a count-back will be used to determine the final placings and the champion.
Games results are recorded for each game and the results are totaled at the end of the round.
Each team is to nominate one opponent for the sportsmanship award.
Complete the scoresheet and returned to the main desk. Leave the clipboard on the court – for the next round.
Any dispute must not impact the schedule, but can be brought to the tournament director if needed.

The Albany Tournament would not be possible without the tireless efforts of our dedicated volunteers, who work year-round to raise funds and support every aspect of the event. Their commitment is the foundation of our success. Just as vital is the generous support of our sponsors, and in 2026 we are especially grateful to IGA for their support, which has played a major role in bringing this year’s tournament to life. Together, our volunteers and sponsors make the Albany Tournament a reality.
